World series game

8:15 p.m. — Freeman can’t keep his momentum from the past handful of games and flies out to Verdugo, ending the top of the first with the score barred at zero. Torres is up first for the Yankees against Flaherty tầm quan trọng của ghi âm kỹ thuật số.

It happened in the fifth. To that point, Cole had held the Dodgers hitless. But Kiké Hernández broke it up with a leadoff single. Tommy Edman then sent a fly ball Judge’s way in center field, but the ball kicked off Judge’s glove for his first error of 2024.

Thanks to the two errors, the Dodgers had the bases loaded. Cole settled down to strike out Gavin Lux and Shohei Ohtani. But then he made an inexplicable gaffe of his own when he didn’t cover first on a Betts grounder down the first-base line. First baseman Anthony Rizzo couldn’t beat Betts to the bag, Hernández scored, and the Dodgers were on the board.

In a World Series stocked with superstars and heavy on historical significance, the Dodgers proved themselves the deeper and more fundamentally sound club. And in hoisting the Commissioner’s Trophy on the heels of a 162-game season, they quieted anyone who claimed that their ongoing run of NL West dominance – including 11 division titles, 12 consecutive postseason appearances and five seasons with 100-plus wins dating back to 2013 – was marred by mostly empty Octobers, save for one burst of brilliance in the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

In the early 1990s, in response to the successful Carmen Sandiego franchise, “editor Sharon Shavers was tasked with turning the games into a book series”. She gave the responsibility to John Peel. His research consisted of playing all the games, and this was followed by “Sharon and work out a format for the series” before he commenced writing. While in the past his natural tendency to add jokes to his work had been looked down upon, “Sharon asked to put more in”. The art was done by Allan Neuwirth. The premise of each choose-your-own-adventure book is that “you are the detective”, and each title features “four exciting detective adventures inside!”. The books are written in the second person and in present tense, and have removable inserts that provided clues and the identities of the villains. The books are published by the Canadian branch of Golden Books Publishing. Western Publishing was planning a September 1991 debut. Inspired by the video games, Peel wrote 16 new cases in the original four-book series. The books came with insert cards which became important in solving the cases.

The second animated series, Carmen Sandiego, is co-produced by Netflix, where it aired for four seasons from 2019 to 2021. In this series, Carmen Sandiego is not a villain or antihero, but the heroine, who is recruited to V.I.L.E. in infancy and trained as a master thief, only to turn against them and seek to undo their thievery.

On March 29, 2021, The Wall Street Journal reported that HarperCollins, a division of American mass media and publishing company News Corp, had reached a deal to buy HMH Books & Media for US$349 million. The sale includes HMH’s trade publishing division and computer game franchises such as Carmen Sandiego and The Oregon Trail.

To capture Carmen, the gumshoe had to identify seven different locations on the map (eight beginning in season 2) in 45 seconds or less, each time grabbing one of a set of large markers with police beacons mounted on top, and quickly placing the marker on one of the red spots on the map.

The Educational Technology Handbook says that the series “engage youth in tracking elusive villains across the earth”. It suggest that the many games in the franchise “…hold your child’s interest by putting them in touch with real-life places and events in a way no formal history or geography lesson can match”. From Barbie to Mortal Kombat: Gender and Computer Games suggests that software games like Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? challenge ideas of gender stereotypes in regard to games, due to it “hav equal appeal for boys and girls”. In 2001, the Los Angeles Times said “even the most sophisticated recent titles have a hard time competing with Carmen Sandiego, the grand dame of teaching kids where in the world they are”. The Stanford paper “Why in the World Is Carmen Sandiego a Success?” by Todd Brown explained the long-lasting appeal of the series: “Ultimately, the keyfactor of success for the Carmen series has been cultural. The designers were able to appeal to all children, boys and girls, by developing an experience with something for everyone. Goals, conversations, intrigue, suspense, learning geography… it’s all there. Furthermore, they did it without just shoving a geography lesson down kids’ throats and without talking down to them either”. He quoted Elliott, who said “We don’t use small words. Kids are short but not stupid”, and concluded “By treating children as the intelligent little people they are, the designers had no need to hide from them the fact that they were playing and learning at the same time. Kids knew. The beauty of Carmen Sandiego is that they kept playing anyway.”

Star Wars’ history with video games is decidedly hit and miss, but we’re happy to report that Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga undoubtedly in the former category, and if you have any fondness for the films and enjoy talking Lego figures cracking dumb jokes, then you should probably get it played ASAP.

The “hey, isn’t this neat?” energy at the core of Star Wars Outlaws, all the little loving details of the world, the sheer amount of stuff to do — hell, even the “long QTE to eat corn” thing — all say to me that Massive Entertainment wanted to fill the game with the kind of activities you’d expect in a huge, “living” Star Wars world. The problem is that in attempting to cram all this stuff in, the team had to slice off so many little bits of basically everything to get it to fit that the result feels a bit half-baked. Maybe the game would have felt more complex if I dedicated myself more fully to managing syndicate reputations, but the trip to get there was so full of the same mission type, over and over, that I stopped caring. Gating the good stuff is fine, but if you don’t provide a taste of it upfront, players will lose interest.

Macy’s has announced the lineup of balloons for the 98th Thanksgiving Day parade and a veteran Pokémon float will be making its annual appearance again. The famous Pikachu and Eevee Pokésled balloon will return and mark 24 consecutive years that Pokémon has appeared in the parade. It’s nice to see…

There are plenty of other issues that contribute to this feeling of systems only being partially built out. Kay needs to carefully manage her relationships with the four crime syndicates she encounters — Crimson Dawn, the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, and the Ashiga Clan — but in practice, this doesn’t end up going anywhere. While a high reputation with a syndicate offers rewards, they’re not particularly necessary rewards. You can carefully circumvent the competing nature of the syndicates (many side missions involve gaining reputation with one at the expense of another) by later bribing the ones you annoyed, or simply doing missions in a calculated order so you’re never pissing anyone off too much. Truthfully, I’m not even sure it’s worth bothering to stay on a syndicate’s good side. A decent number of story missions involve breaking into hideouts even of syndicates you’re friendly with, but as these are all labeled “Restricted Area” locations, being friendly just means you lose reputation when they catch you there — and they’ll shoot you if they find you anyway.

Star Wars Outlaws is played from a third-person perspective. On the ground, players can expect hand-to-hand combat, gunplay, and stealth sequences. While aboard your ship, The Trailblazer, Outlaws provides opportunities for intimate dogfights with TIE fighters and larger-scale battles against massive vessels. More on space combat below.
