By mid-September, just prior to the joint lawsuit, The Pokemon Company scored another legal victory. Its Shanghai toy subsidiary announced the result of a copyright infringement and unfair competition lawsuit against Pocket Monster Reissue (also known domestically as Koudaiyaoguai Fuke). A court found the defendants to be jointly liable, ordering them to compensate RMB 107 million (USD 15 million) in damages.
Earlier, on September 19, Nintendo published an official statement on its website, announcing a joint lawsuit with The Pokemon Company against Palworld developer Pocket Pair for patent infringement. The companies demanded that Pocket Pair stop infringing on their patents and pay damages.
Old world game
It’s hard to ignore Old World’s Civilization influence, but only because the game remedies some of the most bothersome aspects of Civ’s design. There’s an option to undo moves, which I used more times than I care to admit, and there are automation options for tedious tasks like tile improvements and religious activities. These are imperfect but ultimately useful so the player doesn’t waste time on menial decisions.
The AI is generally pretty good, too. A bit too risk averse on the default difficulty, maybe, but also smarter and more reactive. Enemies will retreat to heal up, take advantage of your weaknesses or injured units, and are less likely to be baited into obvious traps. We’re not talking tactical geniuses here, but logical, rational enemies are still a boon. Unfortunately, it’s still not great at capturing cities. It’s just a bit slow and sometimes underprepared, but it gets there eventually.
There are some other little innovations in the 4X space that I’m digging too. The way cities must be built on designated tiles, but can be claimed before actually being built is interesting, and units like scouts being able to harvest resources directly from tiles helps the early-game hours feel busier and more interactive.
The wars you’ll fight across these maps are definitely a highlight of Old World. And unlike the other new features, they add a lot of depth without adding much complexity. Axemen have a cleave that can deal reduced damage to anyone close to their primary target. Simple. Cavalry get to attack again if they kill a unit. Spearmen are the only guys that can stop cavalry in their tracks, as mounted units normally ignore zone of control rules. None of these abilities require multiple paragraphs of text to understand or come with an armload of edge cases, but the possibilities for using them in concert are great, much like a game of chess. And the AI is generally much more capable of understanding and employing those ideas than anything I’ve seen in Civ 6, even after its years of patches.

The story of this series, which is only surprising because of how the first three games played out, is the utter domination of the Astros pitching staff. In Games 4 and 5, with two innings left, the Phillies have struck out 23 times, swatted five hits and scored one run.
