New World received “mixed or average” reviews according to review aggregator Metacritic. It was nominated for Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2021. During 2021, New World managed to position itself in the top played games of Steam.
In August 2024, it was revealed the game would be adapted as an episode of the anthology television series Secret Level. The episode, “New World: The Once and Future King”, released December 10, 2024, would be written by J. T. Petty and Philip Gelatt, directed by Maxime Luère, Léon Bérelle, Dominique Boidin, and Rémi Kozyra, and starring the voices of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Pacey, Gabriel Luna, Arazou, Dana Haqjoo, and Carlo Rota .
The game was originally planned to be a free-to-play game, however in 2019, prior to its release, the business model has changed into the standard business model of paid games. Players who signed up for the game prior to that change received the game for free.

Scott pilgrim vs the world game
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a retro-style 4-player side-scrolling beat-’em’up loosely based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley. It is a throwback to 8- and 16-bit era beat-’em-ups, particularly River City Ransom, and features art by popular pixel animator Paul Robertson as well as a soundtrack by New York chiptune band Anamanaguchi.
Paul Robertson (famous animator for his work on Pirate Baby’s Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006 and the music video of Architecture in Helsinki’s Do The Whirlwind) was the lead animator of the game. GIF sprites of the characters can be found on his LiveJournal here and here.

Initially choosing from either Scott, Ramona, Kim Pine, or Stephen Stills, up to four players must fight their way through the streets of Toronto, Canada in seven levels. Each stage is made up of multiple sections, culminating in a battle at the end with one of Ramona’s exes. Around each stage there are many shops, some of them hidden, as well as destructible objects and weapons that can be picked up. The way characters progress and level up is similar to Castle Crashers and earlier levels can be revisited.
