May 29, 2010. On Memorial Day weekend in Miami, Roy Halladay is on the mound for the Philadelphia Phillies against Josh Johnson and the Florida Marlins. The 25,000 fans in attendance are expecting a pitcher’s matchup and are curious how Halladay, in his first year with the Phillies, will perform coming off his most ineffective start of the 2010 season.
Game 5 looked to go the distance as well with Mussina returning to save face against Miguel Batista. The veteran right-hander improved greatly and allowed only five hits (including a pair of solo home runs in the fifth) while walking three and striking out ten. One of the two solo homers hit in the fifth came off the bat of little-used backup Rod Barajas (a .160 hitter in the regular season) who was in for starter Damian Miller (a late scratch with a strained calf). With the Diamondbacks holding a 2-0 lead, Arizona manager Bob Brenly returned to Kim to start the ninth. Jorge Posada opened the inning with a double but the Korean sidearmer easily retired the next two batters. With one out to go, things finally appeared to go in Kim’s favor, but Scott Brosius begged to differ with a clutch, two-run blast that tied the game at two apiece. Needles to say, the repentive reliever was removed immediately in favor of Mike Morgan, who lasted two-innings himself before being replaced by Albie Lopez in the 12th. Despite Arizona’s fresh arm, Game 4’s finale was replayed after Alfonso Soriano singled (with one out) scoring Chuck Knoblauch with the 3-2, game-winning run. After sprinting to a two game lead, the National League champs were now forced into a do-or-die situation for Game 6. Once again, Johnson returned for Arizona to extend the race and responded with a brilliant six hitter that was sweetened with seven strikeouts. At the plate, Johnson’s teammates dominated as well, scoring fifteen times over the first four innings for a shocking 15-2 massacre.
As the bullpens — including Johnson for four batters a night after starting Game 6 — kept it close, that left the D-backs down a run in the ninth against Rivera, who was in for a two-inning save. He struck out the side in the eighth but ran into trouble immediately in the ninth. Mark Grace singled to lead off the inning and pinch-runner David Dellucci advanced to second on a Rivera throwing error the next play. With men on first and second and one out two batters later, Tony Womack doubled to right field to score Midre Cummings. Jay Bell, who bunted into a fielder’s choice putout two batters earlier, moved to third. After Rivera hit Craig Counsell to load the bases the following at-bat, Gonzalez blooped a single to center for the game-winning walk-off hit.
Midway through Game 1 it was difficult to tell who were the three time defending champions and which was the franchise making it’s Classic debut. Arizona ace Curt Schilling continued his remarkable postseason with seven superb innings and Luis Gonzalez homered, drove in two runs and scored twice as the Diamondbacks stunned the Yanks, 9-1. Taking advantage of a rough start by New York’s Mike Mussina and some sloppy defense, the Diamondbacks seized the opening advantage that resulted in titles nearly 60 percent of the time. Nothing changed the following day as Randy Johnson tossed a three hitter and Matt Williams added a three run homer in the seventh for 4-0 victory. The Big Unit was dominant from the start, allowing just a walk and a single over the first seven innings. He struck out eleven and improved to 3-1 in the postseason. In his last three outings, he allowed just two runs and thirteen hits in twenty-five innings.

The hunt begins with the monster’s activation where they flip over a card and perform its action. These include moving towards or away from heroes, melee or ranged attacks, inflicting physical or elemental damage, and applying various statuses. This card also informs how many hero turns you’ll get and how many attack cards can be played face up on the stamina board each turn.
Players have a hand of five attack cards that have various attacks and conditions they’ll apply to the boss. They also include a number that represents the number of damage cards you’ll draw. The conditions might be a bleed, a stun, or a break area. Breaking an area may invoke an immediate response or a permanent effect. Breaking areas also give extra monster parts that are needed for crafting gear. The damage the monster takes is the damage you dealt minus its armor value. And when a monster’s health drops to zero, the heroes win.
The “art” appears to be screen grabs from the video game, looks like your typical fantasy RPG, and is one of my least favorite parts of the game. I don’t have an attachment to the original IP so maybe this will be a plus for some players but, for me, the look is distracting, and I generally don’t like the style of oversized weapons this game features. Meanwhile, the miniatures are good quality, although the light hero color does hide those details. The large dragon mini’s wings are also removable to keep the box size manageable.

Each quest is timed using Time Cards, which you discard at set points in the Gathering phase and after every player turn during the actual hunt. When you run out of Time Cards, you fail the hunt. Here you’ll also track the monster, pooling Track Tokens which will eventually be used to determine which special attack the monster has in its repertoire when you face it. Generally speaking, the longer you spend tracking it, the less deadly its special attack will be.
