Project Zomboid is an open-world, isometric video game developed by British and Canadian independent developer The Indie Stone. The game is set in the post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested exclusion zone of the fictional Knox Country (formerly Knox County), Kentucky, United States, where the player is challenged to survive for as long as possible before inevitably dying. It was one of the first five games released on the alpha funding section of the gaming portal Desura.
On October 15, 2011, the apartment of two of the developers was broken into, and laptops containing large amounts of the game code, which had not been backed up externally, were stolen, resulting in severe delays to the game’s development. We all see it, there’s no roadmap, the “season of nothing” filler itself is delayed, there hasn’t been any PVP content in years, and everything promised seems to be a final attempt to monetize the game (console sales) before eventual shutdown a la Crucible, amazon’s last failed game.
Combat is in a similar situation, where the choice to use an action-based system instead of rows of hotbars is initially very welcome, but quickly runs out of steam. Things do get a bit more challenging as you approach the endgame, encouraging you to engage with the system more, but for hundreds of hours you’ll see little growth. When you level up you get more points to put into your strength, dexterity and so on, but each weapon type also has an experience bar, as well as two progression trees with three abilities each. You’ll unlock all your weapon abilities very quickly, however, and if you find a pair of weapons you’re comfortable with—I stuck to rapiers and muskets for most of the game—you’re looking at hundreds of hours where you’re just getting the odd passive bonus and not much else.

Game two quickly became a must win. The Rangers fell behind the Giants 2-0 in the 2010 World Series and were never able to recover. Teams that win the first two games won the series 84 percent of the time. The Rangers once again struggled to get men on base, being held scoreless through the first eight-innings. Thankfully for Texas, Colby Lewis pitched a masterful 6.2 innings and the Rangers held the Cardinals to just one run. Entering the top-of-the-ninth down 1-0, the Rangers manged to push two runs across the board. Neftali Feliz would slam the door shut in the bottom-half of the inning tying the series at a game a piece.
The Rangers performed as expected. They won the AL West for the second consecutive season and finished with the best record in franchise history. While it was great to see the team in postseason again, all would have felt lost without a ring.
