They joined 1977 Game 5 Thurman Munson and Reggie Jackson, 1964 Game 6 Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, 1932 Game 3 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and 1928 Game 4 Ruth and Gehrig. The Yankees are the first team in World Series history to hit multiple home runs in the first inning of a game when facing elimination. With the Dodgers in Game 2, this was the first time there were multiple sets of back-to-back home runs in a single World Series.
The homer is coming. If we’ve learned anything from watching Judge all these years, there may be more coming quickly afterward. The Dodgers should probably try to hurry up and finish off this series before Judge lights up. Because he’s about to.

• The Dodgers and Yankees had a World Series preview June 7-9 at Yankee Stadium, with Los Angeles winning two of the three games. Teoscar Hernández had a go-ahead, two-run double in the 11th inning of the first game, a 2-1 Dodgers win, then hit two homers in an 11-3 rout the next night. The Yanks salvaged the finale with a 6-4 win, powered by Trent Grisham’s three-run homer off Tyler Glasnow.
The Dodgers were the first of the two clubs to contest a World Series on the west coast, defeating the Chicago White Sox in 1959. The 1962 Giants made the first California World Series appearance of that franchise, losing to the Yankees. Through two games against the Dodgers, Judge is 1-for-9 with six strikeouts. For the postseason as a whole, he’s 6-for-40 with 19 strikeouts.
