It’s not like I was only person who thought the Cubs were going to be good. , every baseball writer in America knew the Cubs were going to be good . I can’t emphasize enough how little credit I feel like I should take for that prediction.
The Cubs, playing in their 11th World Series overall and their first since 1945, won their third championship and first since 1908, ending the longest championship drought in North American professional sports history. It was the Indians’ sixth appearance in the World Series and their first since 1997, with their last Series win having come in 1948. Cleveland manager Terry Francona, who had previously won World Series titles with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and 2007, fell short in his bid to become the third manager to win his first three trips to the Fall Classic, after Casey Stengel and Joe Torre.

Through two games against the Dodgers, Judge is 1-for-9 with six strikeouts. For the postseason as a whole, he’s 6-for-40 with 19 strikeouts. It’s a far cry from a regular season in which Judge’s 58 homers, 144 RBIs and 1.159 OPS made for one of the best performances by a right-handed hitter in history.
“You can’t give a good team like that extra outs,” Judge said. “It starts with me there in the line drive coming in, misplay that. So that doesn’t happen then I think we got a different story tonight.”
We’ll see how much this matters going forward, because the Dodgers didn’t have to use any of their high-leverage pitchers in this game. They lost it, but Landon Knack going four innings — when the game was still relatively close — helped the Dodgers at least keep their bullpen rested for this Game 5 showdown against Gerrit Cole.

How will the bullpens line up after the starter?Dodgers: Anthony Banda, Alex Vesia, Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen pitched in both games and could be somewhat limited heading into Game 3. Having the off-day does help, but the Dodgers will need to be mindful of the fact that they have a bullpen game lined up for Tuesday’s Game 4. But if the Dodgers take an early lead and have an opportunity to win a third game in the series, Roberts will be aggressive with his high-leverage relievers.
For the third year, the 12-team postseason kicked off with an action-packed wild-card round, featuring eight teams battling for four spots to advance to the eight-team division series. The Houston Astros, Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves were all swept by their wild-card opponents, sending the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres on to the division series. In this year’s only Game 3, Pete Alonso and the New York Mets stunned the Milwaukee Brewers with a ninth-inning go-ahead homer to move on.

Playing at designated hitter, Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to break the 50 home runs, 50 stolen bases barrier in a single season. Yankees: Rizzo is playing through two fractured fingers on his right hand, which is a pain tolerance issue, as the fractures won’t heal until the offseason. Infielder DJ LeMahieu (right hip impingement) has been continuing to hit and field throughout the playoffs.
