World game
Jim Palmer of the Orioles shut out the Dodgers on four hits in Game 2 of the World Series on Oct. 6, 1966. Just nine days shy of his 21st birthday, Palmer became the youngest pitcher to win a World Series game. https://joeyhorn.org/ (National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum)
• It isn’t just the back-to-back games for Freeman. He’s homered in four consecutive World Series games dating back to 2021 with the Braves. That’s tied for the second-longest streak in the Fall Classic, with Reggie Jackson and Lou Gehrig. He trails only George Springer, who did so in five straight.
The fact that he managed to go so relatively deep into the night may end up being quite important. The Dodgers’ rotation has been so ravaged by injuries that bullpen games have been necessary to get through each of these later playoff rounds. None of their remaining starters are especially known for length. Anything this group can do to save the bullpen could be crucial—both in terms of fatigue and in terms of limiting the looks this lineup gets at them.
Star wars open world game
Surprisingly, Outlaws reminds me a lot of Jedi: Fallen Order, a foundation that’s undeniably good and introduces a cast of characters that I already love — but one that could be so much more if it’s given a second chance. I desperately hope Outlaws is given that.
Star Wars Outlaws didn’t put its best foot forward when I played it at Summer Game Fest. That demo covered most of what you do in Ubisoft’s next open-world game: sneak, hack, shoot, and fly. It was fine, but it was overfamiliar, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was experiencing Outlaws in the exact opposite way it was intended. I wanted so badly to hop on Kay’s speeder and explore the open world a bit, but we were rushed through three linear missions on strict 20-minute timers.
But Outlaws isn’t going to be game of the year; it lacks the majesty of an Elden Ring or the intricate storytelling of a Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a summer popcorn single-player game built for the widest possible audience. Perfecting or pushing the limits of its genre isn’t exactly on Outlaws’ mind.
Now does that sense of wonder and magic excuse somewhat rocky traversal? No. Does it make up for the bizarre facial animations and guns dropping mid-cutscene? No. Does it account for that viral IGN clip of NPCs standing around doing nothing? No. Those are issues that really need to be ironed out ahead of launch. From what I’ve played, the gameplay is passable, and perhaps that’s enough.
Outlaws features some light RPG elements, such as an upgrade system that allows you to bolster Kay’s gear, from improvements to her speeder bike to new modules for her blaster. There will also be customization options for Kay’s speeder and spaceship.
There’s an unmistakable sluggishness to the action—like Uncharted playing back at half speed. Kay’s modest sprint, lackadaisical melee takedowns, and a limp self-preservation instinct from enemies failed to get my heart pumping. I’m hoping that some of this can be explained by the demo environment—it’s possible difficulty was dialed down to make sure anyone could finish it. But from what I’ve seen those YouTubers who put together cool stealth kill montages have their work cut out for them making Outlaws’ combat look exciting.

Game 7 world series 2019
• Seven Game 7s and, again, 1912 Game 8, have ended in walk-off fashion. Two of them came in an LCS and the other six decided a World Series champion on the final play. All of the walk-offs were on hits except the Game 8 (a sacrifice fly surrendered by Christy Mathewson), but only two ended on home runs: Bill Mazeroski’s game-winner for the Pirates off Yanks pitcher Ralph Terry in 1960, and Boone’s dramatic solo shot off Red Sox reliever Tim Wakefield in the bottom of the 11th inning in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.
• In Game 7 of the World Series (plus the 1912 Game 8), the home team is actually just 19-21. The visiting team has won four straight World Series Game 7s — the Nationals over the Astros in 2019, the Astros over the Dodgers in ’17, the Cubs over Cleveland in ’16 and the Giants over the Royals in ’14. Before that, home teams won nine in a row, going back to 1982.
Whatever answer Martinez gives to justify his faith in Scherzer, there really was only one reason to leave the 35-year-old on the mound as the Astros continued to reach base: The skipper felt this version of Scherzer still gave Washington its best chance to win. Unless Scherzer’s right arm was completely detached from his shoulder, nothing was going to force Martinez to use his bullpen so long as the Nats remained within two or three runs of the lead.
One cool thing about Game 7 of the World Series: it’s usually close. Of the 40 winner-take-all World Series contests, 15 have been decided by a single run. Twenty-two of the 40 have been decided by two runs or fewer, 29 by three runs or fewer and 33 by four runs or fewer. Those 33 include each of the last 11 Game 7s, going back to the Mets’ 1986 win over the Red Sox. Five of those last 11 Game 7s have been one-run games.
Oct. 10, 1956 — Yankees 9, Dodgers 0Don Larsen’s perfect game in Game 5 wasn’t the only Yankees shutout in the series. After the Yanks took the lead with two first-inning runs, Johnny Kucks tossed a three-hitter to defeat the Dodgers and starter Don Newcombe.
